Calgary IMS – Non-residential weekend retreat with Heather Martin
Mindfulness: Where it began.
September 22 – 24, 2017
Theme: Exploring the ‘Foundations’ of Mindfulness, this weekend we focus on the most accessible, most broadly useful and first foundation – Mindfulness of the Body. There are many aspects of Body awareness underlying a wide variety of meditation practices, such as: establishing present awareness itself while we become increasingly familiar with embodiment in various activities; the language of the body and what it is revealing; developing a very sound home base which can carry us safely over the waves of inevitable change . . We’ll explore and practice with several of them.
This retreat is open to everyone regardless of your level of experience in meditation.
Teacher: Heather Martin has been meditating for 40 years, in various traditions.
Theravada has been her main practice since 1981, when she trained in the style of SN Goenka, for 8 years. She has practiced Tibetan Dzogchen with Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Vipassana with Burmese Sayadaw U Tejaniya, and more recently the early Foundations of Mindfulness with scholar-monk Bikkhu Analayo. Heather has been teaching retreats in North America since 2001, in Canada and the West Coast of the United States. She guides the Salt Spring Island Vipassana Community, where she has lived for 37 years. She is a retired midwife and childbirth educator. Heather emphasizes the practical application of these perennially brilliant teachings, with warm-heartedness, clarity and accessibility.
Time: Friday, Sept. 22 7-9 PM, Saturday, Sept. 23 9 AM – 4 PM, Sunday, Sept. 24 9 AM – 4 PM (Alberta DPP members, there are additional sessions Friday & Saturday – please see here for more information and to register.)
Location: Fort Calgary, 750 – 9th Avenue SE
Cost: $118 earlybird registration before July 30; $128 regular registration Aug. 1 – 31; $138 late registration Sept. 1 – 15. Lunch is included in the cost Saturday and Sunday. Spaces are limited.

Increasing Awareness and Emotional Connection in Daily Life – Living a more Engaged and rewarding Life
Faciliator: Anne Mahoney, Ph.D., R.Psych., F.CGPA. Anne is a registered psychologist with 40+ years of clinical experience. She has also spent 30 years studying and teaching mindfulness meditation and the application of mindfulness to daily life.
Location: 3-1922 9th Ave.SE Calgary, except July 8 at Mindfulness in Action location in the Cochrane area -see poster for more details.
Cost: $99 per session – may be covered by private insurance
